The droppings and moulted skin and shells also help to spread diseases like dysentery, asthma and eczema.

Bed bugs are nocturnal creatures that feed on human blood while we sleep. They sense the presence of humans by their body heat and carbon dioxide levels which increase when we are asleep. Bed bugs can survive for weeks without meals and one feed takes only 10-15 minutes. Thus, bed bugs hitchhiking on luggage and clothing stay put for days or weeks till they sense a host, crawl out of the closets across the floor and up the leg of your bed in order to bite you. This is perhaps the best time to trap them.
Bed bug traps come in various types. Some traps attract the bed bugs by emitting CO2 patterns similar to human respiration and trap them in a polished tray. These low cost easy to install traps give off early warning if a bed bug infestation is detected and also even prevent fresh infestations.
Mattress encasements are another helpful tool for getting rid of bed bugs. The bugs are sealed within the encasements which they cannot escape from nor bite into and eventually they die of starvation. They are most efficient when placed after a bed bug treatment so that bed bugs that are not killed stay within the encasement and stop them from spreading.
Treating the room and objects with heat is another effective alternative. In this method, the temperature is increased to more than 50 degrees and maintained so for a couple of hours. The bed bugs are not able to survive the high temperature and even the eggs are rendered dead after the exposure. Heat treatment is considered the best means of getting rid of bed bugs as the bugs are not able to escape into their hiding holes.
It is very difficult to get rid of bed bugs once they have established themselves in a home. Although they dwell in areas around the bed, pretty soon they spread to other parts of the house and attach themselves to furniture, bedding, baggage, boxes, and clothing. Their ability to survive for months without feeding makes them excellent survivors and makes bed bug detection and bed bug removal extremely difficult.
Inspect all secondhand furniture, beds, and clothes for any signs of bed bug infestation before bringing them inside your house. Treat any suspected item with powders, spray or heat treatment equipment.
Cover your mattress with special encasements and check the encasements regularly for holes.
Reduce clutter around the bed to eliminate all possible places where bed bugs may hide.
Finding bed bugs can be a real pain. They crawl into tiny cracks in floor, walls, bedposts and mattresses and can hide there for several days (up to a year) without food. It is almost impossible search for the buggers within these tight spots and kill them. But what if the bugs voluntarily make themselves visible and rather than the exterminator hunting bugs, the bugs themselves are drawn to the exterminator?
This is a unique bed bug trap and monitoring device that emits carbon dioxide and a powerful pheromone to draw bed bugs towards it and traps them. The NightWatch trap makes us of knowledge of a bedbug’s physiology and their feeding habits to mimic the presence of a sleeping human being by creating similar CO2 patterns. The bed bugs mistake the source as a feeding host and are drawn towards it and fall into pit traps made of highly polished material that they cannot escape.
The device can also be used as a monitoring device to detect early stages of infestation which can otherwise be a tedious task. As it is extremely difficult to distinguish bed bug bites from many other pests, the verification of the presence of bed bugs before hiring a pest removal professional can make the process faster, easier and cheaper.
The monitors are also used to verify that a bed bug prevention treatment is working or not. Keeping the traps near a recently treated area for few days or weeks makes sure that bed bugs do not creep under a door or through a ceiling vent to spread to adjoining rooms.
Our rental units include two 20-ounce carbon dioxide (CO2) canisters as well as a synthetic pheromone packet that lasts for seven day minimum and costs $20 per day only.
So a bed bug infestation has been discovered and confirmed. Now what? You should start by inspecting the entire house to identify the area of infestation. Then try to collect a sample to help the pest control personnel correctly identify the bug. Be sure to thoroughly vacuum the area, and carefully dispose of the vacuum bag. After which you can treat the area with chemicals that are for killing bed bugs. But before you do so, you might want to protect your mattress with special encasements.
Mattress encasements can be a potent means of protecting your bedding against bed bugs or during a bed bug treatment program.
Mattress encasements help in:
Mattresses should be kept in the mattress encasements for 18 months or longer during bed bug treatments, as bed bugs can survive for as long as a year without feeding.
